Etelka was born and educated on the Continent. Her Jewish grandparents were gassed in Auschwitz. She has written all her life, been published in small presses, Writers’ News and some of their anthologies. She is currently preparing a first collection.
TV turned up
lips slurping
round her cup
"Must you make that noise?"
Water gushes
in the loo
a luscious waterfall
"Get that bleeding plumber!"
Radio’s news
is heard upstairs
"Turn that darn thing down,
you hear?"
The phone rings
knob set at ‘HI’
cordless one flashes unseen
"Where the heck have you been?"
Her hearing aid battery
moved her
into another world –
gone flat.
