Jennie lives in Totnes with three Burmese cats and is active in poetry around South West, belongs to Two Rivers Poets, Weir Poets and Moor Poets and loves performing. First collection How to be Naked was published by Oversteps Books in April 2010.
Shivers, haphazard sneezes, cramps
rack a body that’s been through enough –
now there’s too much melting, a fevered sky
ground that’s lost its will to nourish.
We fish around with our fingertips
try to braille our way through landscapes
deformed with cracks and rockfalls;
backwards, forwards, stabbing at shadows.
It’s not got this way under one night’s cover –
wearing dark glasses was a matter of choice.
You save seeds, I search out safe places for the bees
cradle one on my palm, watch it flail
wish I held a blue-green, parasite-free globe
could clothe it in velvet, launch it into a clean sky.
