Moya Pacey

I am living in Canberra Australia after spending 2009-2010 studying at Goldsmiths College for an MA in Creative and Life Writing. I am working on a second collection.

En route to Alaska

The sun wakes me at sea
Vancouver Island to my left;

to my right mocha seals
bask on mottled rocks.

Sitka spruces a dark mystery
– the Rockies a snow of alabaster;

sky and sea are celestine and silver.
Out here in the blind of morning,

I squint through binoculars and see
a bald eagle hook himself to hemlock.

His head looks like a tennis ball thrown
high into the morning air by a careless child.
