It is the strangest thing:
this form in nature
which corresponds
to something in the mind.
These numbers taking shape,
as if to explore
every possibility
of dynamic line.
The Persians knew of them:
they wove them in carpets.
In the domes of temples
they hide in the geometry.
Faustus knew the alchemy,
how chaos lends itself to form,
how the iterating of these lines
brings gold to those who dare.
Formula of Angels.
Mathematics brings them in:
three golden wings
dancing on a pin.
