I’m a beginner in the fascinating game of writing poetry, having done an introductory course with the OU. Past lives include Australia, motherhood, divorce, maths teaching, now I enjoy experimenting with limericks, sonnets, triolets and free verse.
I never fancied plump or balding men.
My penchant was the tasty, sleek Adonis.
I married one, for love, but in return
He tasted, spat me out, all chewed to pieces.
My trust in men was shattered ’til you came
An ageing tonsured, plumpish bachelor.
Your strength and kindness made me whole again
My trusty friend, my nightly comforter.
By breaking rules with love you nourish me
You’ve made our lives adventurous and thrilling.
Dear Cadfael, gentle rebel – tied, but free –
You show the single life can be fulfilling
I live alone, but never by myself
You’re there, in twenty volumes, on my shelf.
